A S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Show? [Excitement!]

Image via Page Branson
ABC Orders A Pilot For Joss Whedon's S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Show : "And I just heard a wacky one this morning…what if it’s a prequel series starring Clark Gregg’s Agent Coulson (doubtful)?"
That. would. be. awesome! Even if it's not Coulson, I've got high hopes.

Confession time (Here it is, my deep dark horrible secret)

This may put my "Joss Whedon Fan" card in jeopardy, as well as any geek cred, but it will certainly prop me up as Queen of Procrastination. It's hard to even type it...who knows if I'll ever be able to say it out loud. Are you ready?

Here it comes...

*clears throat*...

*cough*...

Okay, now, really, I'm going to type it...

I just watched "Firefly" and Serenity.

For the FIRST TIME.

I know, I know.

The worst part is that this is a show I always meant to watch. When it aired in 2002, I just never seemed to catch it when it was on. I was also still in a bit of Buffy mourning and wasn't really ready to accept Joss in a new "relationship" with another show, so I wasn't trying all that hard to catch it. And then, just about the time I felt ready, it was gone. Cancelled after a single season.

Once we got Netflix, both "Firefly" and Serenity went into our queue almost immediately, but there just wasn't any urgency to watch them. And while there has been a sort of background hum of Firefly memes all over the internet for the intervening years, in the last year it all seems to have amped up and I kept coming across things I didn't get because I hadn't seen the show. And then, amazingly, I started running into spoilers. Spoilers. After TEN years. Iknowright? Crazy!

So we finally started watching, and it took a few months, but now we're done and I get to mark something off my list. (Is it bad that I just typed "life" instead of "list" there?) I feel like I've washed away a deep, dark secret.

By the way, it was completely unplanned that we timed this to coincide with the tenth anniversary Firefly panel at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend (which I have yet to see. I marked a grainy YouTube video to watch later...though hopefully not ten years later). That was a total coincidence, although a bit of a nice one.

And now, I'm going to go catch up on "Doctor Who." I'm literally years behind. *more geek shame*

Happy Buffyversary!

Fifteen years ago today, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" premiered on TV.

And I don't think I watched it.

Even though "Buffy" eventually became my favorite show, when it first aired I was just appalled that anyone would take one of my favorite funny movies and try to turn it into a teen drama. The horror! But, as it turns out, it was awesome. I have since learned to trust in the wisdom of Joss Whedon and he's never steered me wrong.

Thanks to the Buffy Facebook page for the heads up!

I would ABSOLUTELY watch this show

DORK TOWER, Tuesday, January 24, 2012
(Click through to see the full-size cartoon)

True, I'm waaaay behind on Dr. Who and I haven't even started Sherlock yet (I hear it's great and I intend to start on season one soon)...but a show like this would be just mind-blowingly awesome (England, will you still let me in?)

The chair of my dreams

I don't pay much attention to the TV show Revenge, which is probably why I never noticed this chair until last night (according to my husband, it shows up quite often), but now that I've seen it...WANT!!!

So, now I just need to come up with $1,859 so I can buy it....um, yeah....

WooHoo! More Red Dwarf coming!

Exciting news from Robert Llewellyn's blog:

The LlewBlog - Red Dwarf - Smegtastic: "In November this year we start to record a new series of 6 episodes, presently titled Red Dwarf X. I’m not sure of the Broadcast dates but we finish recording them in early February 2012. I don't know if this is going to be a prequel to the three specials we made in 2009, or the follow on, or if Kryten will have a new turbo boost for his groinal attachment, or if it takes place on the ship, or Starbug, or if the Skutters will have speaking parts or even indeed, if Rimmer will be any less of a smeghead. All this is to come."

Can't wait to watch!

How do you do Buffy without Joss???

Warner Bros. Rebooting Buffy; Joss Whedon Has "Mixed Emotions":
"I always hoped that Buffy would live on even after my death. But, you know, AFTER...I don't love the idea of my creation in other hands, but I'm also well aware that many more hands than mine went into making that show what it was. And there is no legal grounds for doing anything other than sighing audibly."
At least he has a little sense of humor about it:
"This is a sad, sad reflection on our times, when people must feed off the carcasses of beloved stories from their youths—just because they can't think of an original idea of their own, like I did with my Avengers idea that I made up myself."
But, seriously, no Joss Whedon, no Sarah Michelle Gellar? I doubt I'll be seeing this movie. I don't see a link yet at IMDB. Can we hope Warner Brothers is not that far along with the project and could still decide not to do it? I'm crossing my fingers.

Disclaimer: Back in the day, I was a big fan of the original Buffy movie and was horrified the WB was going to make a TV series out of it. I had the same "Get your hands off!" reaction I'm having now. So, I might be surprised in the long run, but I will remain doubtful for now. I don't think they can manage to turn me around twice.

You won't hear me say this often, but...

I can't wait until Monday!!!

Actually, I guess I do say it fairly often in reference to The Big Bang Theory...but especially this week.

Goodbye, Mrs. Slocombe

On top of everyone else the world has lost lately, Mollie Sugden passed away yesterday. "Are You Being Served" has always been one of my favorite Britcoms. Here's a tribute by nednickerson2009:

A few weeks ago, a friend loaned me the Are You Being Served movie (along with Fawlty Towers, which I was working my way through first). I think tonight would be a good one to sit down with a glass of something, and watch this and remember.

Hi, my name is Mary and...

I'm posting this video mostly to remind myself that I really need to try an "unplugged" night of my own. I know I've posted about it before...but I'm still such a techno-addict that the idea of a whole EVENING without it makes me break out in a cold sweat.

RWA Conference on The Today Show

Why does the media always sound so surprised that romance sells well? This looks a lot like the segment they do EVERY year. They always take the tack of "Wow! Romance actually sells? Why?" rather than "Hey, look a romance conference. How cool!" or at least something other than bemused surprise.
