Confession time (Here it is, my deep dark horrible secret)

This may put my "Joss Whedon Fan" card in jeopardy, as well as any geek cred, but it will certainly prop me up as Queen of Procrastination. It's hard to even type it...who knows if I'll ever be able to say it out loud. Are you ready?

Here it comes...

*clears throat*...

*cough*...

Okay, now, really, I'm going to type it...

I just watched "Firefly" and Serenity.

For the FIRST TIME.

I know, I know.

The worst part is that this is a show I always meant to watch. When it aired in 2002, I just never seemed to catch it when it was on. I was also still in a bit of Buffy mourning and wasn't really ready to accept Joss in a new "relationship" with another show, so I wasn't trying all that hard to catch it. And then, just about the time I felt ready, it was gone. Cancelled after a single season.

Once we got Netflix, both "Firefly" and Serenity went into our queue almost immediately, but there just wasn't any urgency to watch them. And while there has been a sort of background hum of Firefly memes all over the internet for the intervening years, in the last year it all seems to have amped up and I kept coming across things I didn't get because I hadn't seen the show. And then, amazingly, I started running into spoilers. Spoilers. After TEN years. Iknowright? Crazy!

So we finally started watching, and it took a few months, but now we're done and I get to mark something off my list. (Is it bad that I just typed "life" instead of "list" there?) I feel like I've washed away a deep, dark secret.

By the way, it was completely unplanned that we timed this to coincide with the tenth anniversary Firefly panel at San Diego Comic-Con over the weekend (which I have yet to see. I marked a grainy YouTube video to watch later...though hopefully not ten years later). That was a total coincidence, although a bit of a nice one.

And now, I'm going to go catch up on "Doctor Who." I'm literally years behind. *more geek shame*

  1. Don't feel too bad--I was a latecomer to Firefly, too. But, it was worth waiting for. So to speak. :)

There's just so much wonderful out there--how can we be expected to keep up with it all?

  2. I joined the party late on Firefly too. But I do like to watch whenever it comes on. It's also the reason why I watch Castle.

  3. There *is* just too much out there. I love Castle, but it's very hit-or-miss whether I catch it or not.
